What flowers should I plant in January in West Texas?

First of all, let me say, I do NOT have a green thumb. I would like to be able to plant flowers that will be pretty come Spring. Usually, I go to Wal-Mart in April and buy the plants that you come home and plant. This year, we are in our own house and I thought it would be nice to be able to plant some bulbs that will come back year after year. Is it too late to plant bulbs now for Spring? I don't know. If it is, is there anything I should go ahead and plant now? Please help

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy Flowersi live in west Texas, lubbock area. Now is the time for planting any flower bulbs, trees, vines or bushes. Then wait till May 1-5 to plant seeds.
