I need help planting flowers...?

I have never really planted anything on my own before. I was wondering what kinds of plants can be planted together to look good. What kinds of plants or flowers can grow every year so I dont have to replant them every year. And lanscaping...totally clueless. I love the whole woodchip look and the rocks around them. But I also want somthing simple. Plus, what about what flowers for shade verse sun. I have no flowers or anything in my yard it looks so plain...ugly basically. I want it to look inviting and that I know what I am doing. Or should i hire someone?

PLEASE HELP!

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI am a landscaper and designer. You have some good questions and these are typical questions people ask.

The main goal you will have is have an overall plan. I will link you to the plan - prep - plant page of my website. This is a very easy method to do any type of landscape or garden.

When you do any outside project, think of your personality with colors and textures that are in your home. Take those colors and incorporate them outside.

There are so many different plant specimens you could plant. There are annual and perennial flowers, culinary and ornamental herbs, trees and shrubs. I will link you to the gallery of plants section as there are many plant specimens for you to see. I will also link you to the variety of more plants as there are more species. The site map is a page that has everything on the website. This will give you many articles, tips and techniques on doing your landscaping. Feel free to contact me if you need further suggestions.

You can do phase planting. Many people do this due to their budgets. If you are planting trees, start with the trees. This is usually the foundation of your landscape. Wait a little while and put in some evergreen or deciduous shrubs. If you are planning just a flower garden, go ahead and plant either just a perennial bed, annual bed or a combination of both. Good luck to you and have a great day!

Reply:We went to our local garden center and for $50 they developed a plan for our whole yard including what type of flowers and trees go where (settles the whole sun and shade issues). We kept the plan and every year as our budget allows complete a little bit of it. They will also give you an estimated price of materials and installation costs so you can determine if you should put it in yourself or have them do it.
Reply:http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/... hear is a guide for you to read.. a suggestion dont buy any plants over the line.. you get better advice and selection from a local grower in your area.. also if they die a local grower will give you another kind ok good luck.
Reply:Your questions are very common and there are great resources out there to help you. What region of the country do you live in? That will help determine the best plants for your landscape. Do a Google search for your local cooperative extension service and master gardeners program (usually associated with a state university with an agricultural program). Their websites are usually full of great info and fact sheets, some also offer consultations with certified master gardeners who would be happy to help you.

I moved to Colorado from the east coast and I was clueless...those programs helped me a lot, and now I am having success with Xeriscape (low water) plants...quite a change from the types of plants I was used to back east.Reebok
