Reply:Well I don%26#039;t know about your area, but I know about shade, unfortunately. Annuals: Begonias, Browallia, Fuchsia, Impatiens. I have grown petunias with just a bit of sun and they did OK. Sometimes you have to experiment. The soil conditions mean a lot too. If the soil is very good sometimes the plant will do well even if it prefers more light.
Perennials: Alchemilla, Bleeding Heart, Christmas Rose, Goat%26#039;s Beard (in theory, mine never flowered), Forget Me Nots, Hosta, Jacob’s Ladder, Primrose, Virginia Bluebells (not successful for me) I have grown garden geraniums in near shade too. Of course tulips will grow anywhere. I don%26#039;t know if they grow in the south, because they need a period of cold weather, so may you can%26#039;t grow them in LA unless you put them in your freezer for a month or two..
I live in the Midwest with 4 seasons. But I think most of these work in the south too, except the tulips.
