Name a few plants that grow in full shade which flowers for Losangeles area?

I live in LA and would like to know a few plants that can grow and produce flowers in absolute shade.
Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersHosta will grow in full shade, some more than others. And they have nice flowers. There is a bush that blooms in the winter called Sweet Box (Sarcococca). It is the most wonderful fragrance for such small flowers. Bleeding heart, Columbine, lungwart (pulmonaria), hardy fushia, coral bell, helleborus These are just a few perennial. I did a shade bed in my back yard and I have all of these. There are some annuals as well that will work in your area. I did a search online for shade plants and went to our local nursary and asked questions.
Reply:I live in the LA area too.

Shade plants: Clivia; beautiful orange flowers in late winter

Camellia: japonicas get 6 ft or taller, sasanquas vary from 4ft to 6 ft.

Heuchera(Coral Bells) small plant blooms in Spring is Cal native

For annual winter color: Primroses-Obconicas, Fairy, English.

Helleborers- uncommon but they grow for one of my clients in Altadena! Bloom in winter.

For summer; Impatiens are the best color for shade and part sun.
Reply:My Blue Potato Bush seems to do fairly well...
Reply:My favorite groundcover in the shade is dwarf %26#039;Katie%26#039; ruellia...doesn%26#039;t get over 6%26quot; tall and I use all three colors..purple, pink and white...spreads everywhere and is evergreen.

Reply:Well I don%26#039;t know about your area, but I know about shade, unfortunately. Annuals: Begonias, Browallia, Fuchsia, Impatiens. I have grown petunias with just a bit of sun and they did OK. Sometimes you have to experiment. The soil conditions mean a lot too. If the soil is very good sometimes the plant will do well even if it prefers more light.

Perennials: Alchemilla, Bleeding Heart, Christmas Rose, Goat%26#039;s Beard (in theory, mine never flowered), Forget Me Nots, Hosta, Jacob’s Ladder, Primrose, Virginia Bluebells (not successful for me) I have grown garden geraniums in near shade too. Of course tulips will grow anywhere. I don%26#039;t know if they grow in the south, because they need a period of cold weather, so may you can%26#039;t grow them in LA unless you put them in your freezer for a month or two..

I live in the Midwest with 4 seasons. But I think most of these work in the south too, except the tulips.
