Any recommendations on things to plants (trees, flowers) in my front yard to suck up water?

I live at the bottom of a hill and all of the water from my entire street flows down the hill and into my front yard.

The Clemson Extension Master Gardener program describes a Rain Garden. There are processes and specific plants just for the type of garden.

You could add rain collectors from your home too, rain barrels make good water source for the dry spells, and save you water bill expense.

Make sure your house gutters are aimed in a direction away from the wet area.

Of all the ideas, I like the Rain garden the best, because it makes a creative use of what you have naturally available, and it is environmentally friendly to the runoff.

Happy Gardening.
Reply:you need to divert the water or get a french drain
Reply:if you have the space eucalyptus is the best. it work like a sponge
Reply:chickie is right,,,,willows will absorb alot of water and they will grow quickly so don%26#039;t plant it too close to the house.

They also attract carpenter ants. When the willow grows over the house, and the wind blows the carpenter ants will drop onto the house and start a colony in any wood that you have exposed.
