Planting flowers in Michigan.?

What are some types of flowers that can be planted in Michigan around August? I am planning on giving seeds for my wedding favors but i need to know what grows best that time of year.
Say
FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersYou are asking for 'seed' flowers . . I'm in MI I have always understood, seed here are planted in May. Some people swore

around Memorial day, some before? Just in May therefore, the

seed would not grow enough before the frost time to be fruitful??

Maybe you could go with another plant, perhaps a perennial??

That would come up each year, yet could be planted in August.

Good luck, and happy wedding!!
Reply:I'm not sure about there but where I'm from mums are what we

use in the fall. Also, I'm not positive but I believe that any kind of

bulb flowers are planted in the fall, like tulips etc. Hope this helps.

August is probably too late to plant, but most people might wait until the spring to plant the seeds anyway. Also, if you are going to make up the seed packets yourself, you could print on them 'plant in spring after last frost' or something like to that.

You might want to try something like a mix of easy annuals. Even the most brown-thumbed gardener can grow cosmos, morning glories, zinnia, cornflowers, forget me nots, johnny jump ups, nasturtiums, calendula, etc.

I've had pretty good luck buying bulk quantities of inexpensive seeds on ebay too. If you end up doing that, and printing your own packets, you should save a few bucks and still have a lovely keepsake from the wedding. Good luck!
Reply:I live here in michigan and it seems to me that august is too late to grow anything considering its snowing now.flower
